“It has been determined that Gregg will not be touring in 2017. For those of you who purchased tickets for shows in June, contact the ticket outlet from where you purchased the tickets for a refund.”
This announcement greeted visitors to the Gregg Allman website today. So far, no further details are available. Allman had been battling health concerns last year, canceling several shows in August of 2016 due to pneumonia.
He then played a couple of shows in October at the Laid Back Festival in Atlanta, but by November he canceled the remaining shows for 2016 saying, “This is the hardest thing I’ve had to do in a long, long, time. I’ve been on the road for 45 years because I live to play music with my friends for my fans. As much as I hate it, it’s time for me to take some real time off to heal.”
It has been a rough time for Allman, who lost his longtime bandmate Butch Trucks in January of this year. He was devastated, issuing an official statement that said, “I’m heartbroken. I’ve lost another brother, and it hurts beyond words. Butch and I knew each other since we were teenagers, and we were bandmates for over 45 years. He was a great man and a great drummer, and I’m going to miss him forever.”
Also in January, on a more positive note, Allman’s website had noted in January that along with producer Don Was, he was putting finishing touches on his upcoming studio album, Southern Blood, releasing on Rounder Records.
