Callahan’s Music Hall in Auburn Hills, Michigan has announced that it will be closing its doors in March, 2018. The club has hosted primarily blues and rock performances for more than a decade.
The announcement came on Tuesday, December 5th, via the club’s email newsletter, as well as a statement on the club’s Facebook page. “After 10+ years of presenting great ‘Live’ music we have decided to ‘wrap it up’ at the end of March 2018,” the statement reads. “We have made the decision to concentrate on our family, health, and other interests. We are incredibly thankful to all of the artists who have performed, our great staff, and especially all of the great music fans who have made it all possible.”
Callahan’s launched in 2007 as an intimate club/concert venue providing a stage for both local and national artists. Hosting over 1,500 shows to date, Callahan’s has also been home for the Detroit Blues Society’s annual Blues Challenge, whose winners advance to the IBC in Memphis.
Priding themselves on their casual environment, Callahan’s caters to the “not so hip” music lovers of the Detroit metro area. It also houses Callahan’s Bar & Grille, with the music hall only opening on performance nights.
“Our goal was to continue in the tradition of Detroit’s great clubs like Soup Kitchen, Sully’s, and Cisco’s,” says General Manager Michael Callahan. “Based on the incredible shows, feedback from artists, and the incredible support we have received we consider our goal accomplished. While change is coming the beat goes on! We have been talking with some of our friends and plan on wrapping the party up in style.”
