With deeply felt vocals and single acoustic guitar, singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah reimagines post-punk band Joy Division’s best known single, “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” as a powerful ballad.
“’Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is the tragedy of knowing that the spark is gone forever,” explains Kiah. Continuing, “The weight of helplessness bearing down, the feeling of being alone in the presence of a partner that is emotionally and mentally miles away and is never coming back. Here’s to taking a sad song and making it sadder.”
Kiah, a member of supergroup Our Native Daughters (alongside Rhiannon Giddens, Allison Russell, and Leyla McCalla), made her Rounder Records debut with Wary + Strange last year. 2021 proved a banner year, as she also made her Grand Ole Opry debut; performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and CBS This Morning Saturday Sessions; and earned three Americana Music Award nominations (and two more from British counterpart Americana UK).
Kiah has announced her first tour dates for the new year. In early February, she will perform with Brandi Carlile, Tanya Tucker, Indigo Girls, Allison Russell, Yola, and others at Carlile’s third annual Girls Just Wanna Weekend festival on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
Additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
