Keb’ Mo’ and special guest Abby Owens performed at the legendary Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on Sunday night. Abby warmed up the crowd with a nice acoustic set, and her powerful voice set the mood for the night.
Keb Mo, 5x GRAMMY winner with almost 50 years of music under his belt brought his amazing guitar work and storytelling to the Valley of the Sun. Mo’ played a few of his hits sitting on a stool playing an acoustic set that was a sight to be seen. “More Than One Way Home,” one of his more popular songs, kicked this magical night off. It’s a high-beat tune you can dance to, but when slowed down on an acoustic guitar is alone worth the price of admission. If the show ended there, I would have been happy.
He kept things going with his witty stories that had his fans laughing, until his band joined him to finish out the show with new and old tunes that in a Keb’ Mo’ fashion rocked the house.
Keb’ Mo’ AKA Kevin Moore performed hit after hit with “Government Cheese” and “Soon As I Get Paid,” but somewhere in the middle might have been the highlight with “Shave Yo’ Legs,” when this amazing crowd gave him a standing ovation.
If you leave one of his shows and aren’t satisfied, there might not be any way of satisfying you. With his combination of guitar and the voice, he was blessed with that blues sound that will never be forgotten. Pair that with his storytelling and Keb’ comes out on top as the ultimate entertainer. Many say he’s a country-blues performer, and I agree that he captures that vibe to perfection – something he figured out a long time ago.
