Esteemed blues guitarist Alastair Greene presents eleven new studio tracks on his debut release with the prestigious German label Ruf Records, Standing Out Loud – ten original compositions and one classic nod to Canned Heat and Rory Gallagher. The album was recorded in Nashville with co-producer JD Simo and in his current hometown, Austin, TX, with engineer Hunter St. Marie.
Drawing upon the nostalgic sounds of the 1960s and ‘70s, Greene weaves together a tapestry of driving slide guitar, energetic blues arrangements, occasional Southern Rock undertones, intricate funky riffs, and emotive slow blues interludes. In his lyrical content, Greene digs into philosophical reflections, personal narratives, and subtle humor, showcasing a multifaceted approach to songwriting.
This album further underscores Greene’s established reputation, garnered from his acclaimed solo releases in recent years, as well as his extensive touring as a key player in the Alan Parsons Project and Sugaray Rayford’s band. This multi-charting billboard artist’s star is soaring, as his artistic oeuvre continues to grow and expand.
Greene shares, “Standing Out Loud really captures my interpretation of the music that got me turned onto the blues and blues rock. The rock music of the late ’60s and early ‘70s was the gateway drug for a lot of people that ended up finding the blues. That’s what I want to convey with this record, that feeling of ‘I really like this, where did it come from?’ Well it all comes from blues and a good percentage of the time we find the blues through rock and roll.”
