Warren Haynes, GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitar legend, producer, and Gov’t Mule frontman is releasing his self-produced solo album, Million Voices Whisper, on November 1st via Fantasy Records. This is Warren’s first solo album in almost a decade, and fourth solo album in his library.
We all know what Warren did for The Allman Brothers, his band Gov’t Mule, and even touring with The Dead. I truly admire everything he creates that turns to gold, but this soulful blues-rock collection is my favorite of his work. My idea of a good time is sitting back at a Warren show for three-and-a-half hours listening to this type of jam. I appreciate how he thinks outside the box with his music, exploring genres like reggae, blues, and hard rock, but this particular style showcases his personal best.
Warren received assistance on a few tracks, including “Day of Reckoning,” which features Lukas Nelson and Jamey Johnson. It’s a fantastic rocking song, from the lyrics to the guitar work. This trio really came together on this one, especially with the vocals. I can’t wait to hear this one live, and I hope I get to hear everyone perform it. Derek Trucks, a bandmate from The Allman Brothers, helps with multiple songs – the first time these two have worked together in the studio since The ABB ended. Trucks is really showcased on “Real’ Real Love,” another classic which Haynes and late ABB founder Greg Allman started writing before Greg passed.
Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott, longtime drummer Terence Higgins, and keyboardist John Medeski all join Haynes in the WHB, enhancing this collaboration. This all-star lineup truly stands out. Perhaps it could be an album focused on improving love, life, and the world.
Million Voices Whisper is set to be released on November 1st of this year, and you won’t want to miss it! I’m hoping for a tour to follow because you can never get enough of Warren.
