“The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all,” according to American author Josiyah Martin, a quote applicable to England’s Number 1 blues and roots singer Elles Bailey. The New Year starts here with a spectacular flourish, an acoustic version of the Americana-tinged “Leave The Light On” from the multi-award winning chanteuse. The original track is on the best-selling album Beneath The Neon Glow which achieved mainstream chart success in the UK last year.
Elles sets the scene for her emotionally intense love song:
You have to be a certain selfless type of person who supports another to realize their dreams, and that’s exactly the type of person I married. So, this is my autobiographical, open and honest love letter to my husband.
The track is inspired by the time I missed my train home from London and ended up coming back really late at night feeling exceptionally guilty as I had been away so much, but as I arrived home, outside our house, the light has been left on and this small gesture just felt so welcoming and supportive. The next day this song was penned.
A superb lyricist, Elles sings from the heart, her deep devotion flowing through every note of this soulful yet upbeat song. Joe Wilkins’ guitar playing is minimalistic, melodic, and pure genius – commensurate with his UK Instrumentalist of the Year nomination. After this breathtaking start to 2025, Elles’ legion of fans will be eagerly anticipating the next 12 months.
