American Blues Scene is proud to officially announce the news of an extremely exciting Delta Blues video project!
The creators of the award-winning documentaries M For Mississippi and We Juke Up in Here return in 2013 with Moonshine & Mojo Hands, a new, weekly web-TV series dedicated to the rude, rowdy – and often ridiculous – world of Mississippi blues. Ride shotgun with hosts Roger Stolle and Jeff Konkel as they travel the Delta’s back roads in search of juke joints, house parties, moonshine and – of course – the men and women who keep this uniquely American music alive in the land of its birth.
Konkel is the owner of celebrated delta blues label Broke & Hungry Records, and Stolle is the proprietor of the Clarksdale, Mississippi-based Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art. “We’re thrilled to be launching the first-ever blues music reality show,” Konkel tells the American Blues Scene. “Anyone who has spent time in Mississippi knows that there are a million amazing stories to tell about the music, the people, the culture, the food and the landscape. With ‘Moonshine & Mojo Hands,’ we aim to do just that. We hope blues fans will support this new project in any way they can.”
With its heady mix of fascinating characters, hilarious situations, rustic settings and rousing musical performances, the series aims to appeal to both cult and mainstream fans of music, culture and history. Moonshine & Mojo Hands combines the feel of the producers’ earlier films with that of television travelogues like American Pickers and No Reservations and web-only shows like Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.
By showcasing such a fascinating foreign land so close to home, the producers hope to inspire others to make their own road trips down Mississippi’s blue highways. The series, due out later this year, will be in a weekly web series format consisting of (approx.) 12-minute episodes (10 per season).
The project needs your help! A Kickstarter project has been launched to raise the funds to support the production & creation of the series. Supporters can contribute any amount of money they feel comfortable with, and in exchange get special “perks” such as free music downloads, bumper stickers, hats, personal interaction with the producers, and more!!
