The newest Alligator Records release from Tommy Castro & The Painkillers, drops this Friday, September 29th. Entitled Stompin’ Ground, the album takes Castro and company on a nostalgic journey through his hometown of San Jose, California. Combining six brand new, original tracks with six covers, it offers us the blues rock, soul, and social messages of his stompin’ grounds from the days of his youth.
This world premiere of “Nonchalant,” is the first track from Castro’s fifth Alligator release. The album was recorded at Kid Andersen’s Greaseland Studio in San Jose, adding another hometown touch. The Painkillers, Castro (Vocals, Guitar), Randy McDonald (Bass, Backing Vocals), Bowen Brown (Drums), and Michael Emerson (Keyboards), are joined on “Nonchalant” by Andersen (Rhythm Guitar, Tambourine), Lisa Leuschner Andersen (Backing Vocals), Nancy Wright (Tenor Sax), and John Halbleib (Trumpet).
“I didn’t want it to be a rock blues album,” Castro shared with us. “I didn’t want it to be a traditional blues album. I just wanted to make a strong Tommy Castro record. Not trying to get caught up in any particular kind of style, I was just trying to put some really good songs together.”
