Help American Blues Scene petition Google to officially create a Muddy Waters Google Doodle on April 4th — Muddy’s birthday! See Instructions Below!
Google.com routinely alters its logo, usually for one day, to commemorate an act, birthday, or event of cultural impact and historical significance. This is called a Google Doodle.
Please help us invite Google to acknowledge the worldwide cultural impact of Blues Music through a Doodle honoring one of its original and most transcendent heroes, Muddy Waters.
Why does Muddy Waters deserve a Google Doodle?
Google already celebrates music’s historic impact on culture like the Birth of Hip Hop, Les Paul, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Josephine Baker. A Muddy Waters Google Doodle will help bring cultural recognition and understanding to a music that is still the foundation for almost any popular music today. Soul, Hip Hop, Rock n Roll, Rap, and many more can trace direct roots to the Blues, which even contributes the “B” to R&B.
No figure has inspired an international music explosion quite like blues musician McKinley “Muddy Waters” Morganfield, who left a log cabin in a Mississippi cotton field to break new ground by pioneering early electric guitar with his inimitable vocal style. After more than 100 years, Muddy Waters’ continuing impact has proven the blues singer to be one of the most significant figures in the history of American Music, inspiring generations of artists and entire cultural movements like Folk, Chicago Blues, and Rock n Roll.
In 2017, the City of Chicago even acknowledged this great achievement through a permanent ten-story mural of Muddy Waters on a downtown skyscraper.
