Things happen fast in the world of Gina Sicilia. She began writing songs at age 12. By 21 she had released her debut album, Allow Me to Confess, which garnered her a BMA nomination. Fast forward a dozen more years and Sicilia is on the precipice of releasing her eighth studio album, Heard the Lie, on August 31st via Blue Elan Records.
Ever evolving, Sicilia integrates down-to-the-roots inspirations seamlessly within the blues. It’s long been her trademark style, as we always say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
On her re-imagining of Bad Company’s “Ready For Love,” Sicilia added her own creative impulses, some soulful touches, and created a smoldering cover.
As I was recording this song, I absolutely fell in love with singing and bringing my own interpretation to such an incredible classic. This is an amazingly soulful song as it is, but I think with the help of my producer Dave Darling, we definitely made it our own.
This song almost feels like a personal anthem, as the lyrics really resonate with me, particularly in the second half of the song. They represent how I feel about my life right now, and about the the hard work I’ve put into my music, as well as the ups and downs I’ve experienced. I feel like I’ve truly reached a place where I am strong, confident, fearless, and proud of the work I’ve done.
I’m ready and equipped for whatever lies ahead and this song feels like a declaration of that confidence and an expression of my desire for great things.
As the lyrics state:
“Now I’m on my feet again
Better things are bound to happen
All my dues surely must be paid
Many miles and many tears
Times were hard but now they’re changing
You should know I’m not afraid”
The video was directed by Scot Sax in Sicilia’s own East Nashville home. In keeping with her driven lifestyle, it was shot and edited in the span of 12 hours. We told you things move fast in Gina’s world.
Gina Sicilia is indeed unafraid, and is boldly heralding the arrival of Heard the Lie with this Bad Company classic.
One can stream “Ready For Love” via Spotify. Pre-orders for Heard the Lie can be made on iTunes, Amazon, and on the Blue Elan website.
