The Village Trip organization has announced further details and events for their sixth-annual festival of arts and activism taking place across lower-Manhattan September 14th – 28th, 2024.
First is the NYC premiere of the acclaimed documentary Lead Belly: The Man Who Invented Rock ‘n’ Roll, which has been confirmed to screen September 15 at the City Winery Loft followed by a conversation between Alvin Singh, who is Lead Belly’s great nephew, and Anna Canoni, who is Woody Guthrie’s granddaughter.
Second is an event honoring the 70th anniversary of Shakespeare in the Park with a concert featuring selections of the music composed for the long running series by David Amram, who will be sharing the stage with Gail Papp (widow of founder Joseph Papp) and a host of singers and actors.
Overall, the two-week festival will kick off September 14 and feature concerts, readings, film screenings, children’s events, walking tours, an art show and more. The Village Trip at West 4th St., is an opening block party on “New York’s Left Bank,” centered around the historic Music Inn, a Village fixture for more than half a century, and a regular stop for the likes of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and George Harrison.
