The legendary Swamp Dogg released a deluxe edition of his critically acclaimed new album Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th St which adds a cover of the Beatles’ “Rocky Raccoon” and the brand new song “Fools Like Me.”
The deluxe edition serves as a celebratory moment for Swamp Dogg after his album debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums Chart. It follows his debut performance at the Grand Ole Opry, a showcase at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and several appearances at AmericanaFest.
“I love songs that paint pictures, give you reasons to think, and allow you to be a part of it via identification. Paul McCartney did just that in writing ‘Rocky Raccoon.’ That’s why I recorded it!,” Swamp Dogg explains.
Produced by Ryan Olson (Poliça, Gayngs) and recorded with an all-star band including Noam Pikelny, Sierra Hull, Jerry Douglas, Chris Scruggs, Billy Contreras, and Kenny Vaughan, Blackgrass is a riotous blend of past and present, mixing the sacred and the profane. In typical Swamp Dogg fashion, it blurs the lines between folk, roots, country, blues, and soul alongside special guests like Margo Price, Vernon Reid, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon, and The Cactus Blossoms.
