As a humanist, he was at the forefront of integration, playing black jazz clubs throughout the deep South in the ’50s, a point of pride for him. Dave Brubeck was one of the first bandleaders in America to integrate his group.

Guy, 76, is one of the pioneers in the Chicago blues style that pushed the sound of the electric guitar to the forefront of blues music. It was a version of the blues that drifted over the Atlantic to Britain and echoed back in the heart-pounding rock sound of Led Zeppelin
