The Flagstaff Blues & Brews Festival was a great time.

With just 4 members, they produce a sound that is much bigger than the sum of their parts.

As for ‘Taking it to the Street,’ while blues purists may poo-poo the effort, we think it’s a blues/rock album that will get played many times over in the collections of those who appreciate the modern genre.

Serving as the long awaited debut release from 20 year old British blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter Connor Selby, ‘Made Up My Mind’ is exactly what the blues world needs.

Blue & Lonesome Duo is made up of singer/harmonica player Ronnie Owens, of Li’l Ronnie & the Grand Dukes, and singer/guitarist Gordon Harrower, he too of the Grand Dukes, but also of Rattlesnake Shake.

This is an instrumental album, and just like other such albums of quality (think Freddie King’s ‘Let’s Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King’), ‘Harpbreaker’ is destined to become a classic!

‘Honey Up’ is a monster! The album showcases Collier’s gritty playing, fiery singing, and her burgeoning song-writing prowess.

Not only does Amanda Fish completely forgo the sophomore slump with this record, but she shows us the victorious side of a champion. ‘Free’ is her triumphant roar that everyone should hear.

Lebo has written some nice songs and, along with a talented band, brings them to life. It’s a fun, solid album showing off some old school cool.

Wall is an excellent guitar player who works within the confines of each song. He’ll show some flash when necessary, but for the most part, he’s just playing soulful solos that sound good. He’s not trying to impress the listener.
