In 1970 Cocker was given only nine days to put together a band for his upcoming tour. Up against the wall and without a band, he turned to his friend Leon Russell for help.
Cale himself is constantly smiling, like a kid in a candy store, about to walk out the door with a pocket full of sweets no one knows he has.
In 2011 Russell was inducted into both the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, joining Johnny Cash and a very select group in being so honored.
Russell is currently in stable condition, undergoing tests and is scheduled for surgery.
