Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Orleans Avenue put on a high-energy performance that is one of the best live acts around. Led by Shorty, his band Orleans Avenue lit up the Red Rocks stage this past Tuesday evening. They had the crowd on their feet from the second they walked out, until the show’s finale. Shorty jumped back and forth all night playing his trombone and trumpet, but an early trumpet solo left many fans speechless. He played for what seemed like forever, until falling to his knees to catch his breath; it was amazing to watch. Shorty even showed off his dancing skills with a moon dance during “Here Come The Girls,” a song from his just released album, Parking Lot Symphony.
Shorty’s band Orleans Avenue gave their all; they worked hard and played hard, and the fans loved it. Solos by guitarist Pete Murano and bassist Mike Bailey were spot on, while the sax players, BK Jackson and Dan Oestreicher fed off each other all night. The drummers were in sync and back up vocals were simply perfect.
Orleans Avenue and Shorty are a great fit, and throughout the evening fans could see how much fun they were having, laughing and dancing, with everyone taking a turn to show off their talents. This is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Shorty continues touring the U.S. through the middle of November before heading to Europe for his fall tour.
